595. Monty Python and the Holy Grail (1975)
We reach today the first film starring Monty Python on the List. It revolves around King Arthur and his search for the Holy Grail. Actually the film consists of a series of skits with that general argument. Each one displays the group’s usual crazy and surreal humour.
Some scenes of the film are now part of the legend such as the conversation of coconuts and seagulls or the evil knights who say Ni. Much of the hilarity of these scenes comes from their unpredictability. The Monty Phyton play with the public’s expectations adding surreal and anachronistic elements to surprise. A killer rabbit, a medieval servant speaking as a 20th Century’s trade unionist, a bobby arresting a medieval knight,… anything can happen in the world of Monty Python!
Undoubtedly this is one of those films you can watch several times and never stop laughing.
